The Aussiedoodle is a mix between an Australian Shepherd and a Standard or Mini Poodle. Aussiedoodles are a very intelligent, lovable, and energetic breed.
Coat:
Aussiedoodles can have a straight, wavy, or curly coat depending on the generation and parents used. Most Aussiedoodles tend to shed very little if any at all. An F1B or higher generation Aussiedoodle is recommended for those with mild pet allergies. Our puppies are F2B.
The Aussiedoodle coat will require frequent brushing when grown out and is fairly easy to maintain when trimmed. An Aussiedoodle’s coat is different than a double coated dog and can be shaved without damaging the hair. We recommend daily brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to avoid tangles and matting.
Appearance:
Aussiedoodles come in a variety of colors. We focus mainly on Blue Merle, Red Merle, Tuxedo, Black and Brindle. All of our Aussiedoodle tails are left natural, just how nature intended!
Size:
Our Mini Aussiedoodles generally range from 12-18 inches high and can weigh between 15-35+ pounds.
Temperament:
Aussiedoodles make outstanding family pets and are generally great with children of all sizes. They are sweet, outgoing dogs who are full of life! The Aussiedoodle is a highly intelligent and friendly dog. They are very family orientated and love spending time with their people. Aussiedoodles are often used as service or therapy dogs due to their lovable nature and their trainability. They are a well rounded breed who love to get outside and play but can be just as content to lay at your feet.
Training:
Aussiedoodles are extremely smart and eager to please. Training must be done with rewards, firmness, patience and consistency. Both of the breeds used to create the Aussiedoodle are considered to be canine Einsteins, making this one super smart cross-breed. Basic training such as “sit”, “come”, “stay” etc. should start as soon as you take your Aussiedoodle home to ensure your puppy starts off on the right foot. It is important to crate train your Aussiedoodle when they are young so that they don’t become destructive in your home and are reliable with potty training.
Activity:
Aussiedoodles require exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and getting into trouble. They will do well in any living situation provided that their needs are sufficiently met. They will do best if given daily walks and playtime. Most Aussiedoodles enjoy swimming, going on hikes, and excel in agility. Aussiedoodles have a medium to high energy level and are best for those who live an active lifestyle.
Girls vs. Boys:
Always pick the opposite sex of the dog you already have. Females are much more stubborn and territorial than a male. Most fights break out between two females because of their strong will for dominance. Females will come to you for attention but move away when she’s done.
Males are more affectionate, attentive and more demanding of attention. Males are more out going and less moody. Also males adjust more quickly to other animals and children. Males can be more distracted in training because of their playful personality. Males tend to grow a little larger than a female.
